Samsung have today announced an 8GB, flash memory based, camcorder at the Berlin based IFA show. This reinforces the current trend of moving away from disk based devices (HDD), favouring, instead, the solid state flash equivalent. Flash based devices have less moving parts and so consume less power as well as taking up less space. They also give of less heat and are quieter. All good in our books!
The HMX20C records in 10801 Full HD at 30FPS (resolution of 1920x 1080i ) and is tiny! It sports one of the smallest camcorder bodies available. Its promised to have an amazingly quick start up time so you can be videoing those spontaneous moments quicker than ever.
The screen size is 2.7cm and is a touchscreen version. This means its easier to interact with he device and use its built in on-the-fly editing studio.
8MP still & 300fps slow mo Modes!
It has built in image stabilisation into the 6.4 megapixel CMOS and can take stills at a very respectful 8mp. More exciting though is its ability to take shots at 300fps! We have fun in the office with our 120fps shooting on our, less than perfect for the job, mobile phones. Recording great, cake thrown against the wall, moments and watching them back in slow mo is very entertaining. We can't wait to start using the 300fps model, Samsung say this is useful to analyse your golf swing etc, but we have other ideas. :-)
There is no release date, as yet, for the HMX20C, or price for that matter, so don't hold out if you are currently looking for a HD camcorder. If you are patient though it might well be worth the wait.
