Definition:
A Memory Card Reader is a device that connects to your PC via a USB or Firewire cable and transfers data directly from your memory card to your PC. Data can also be transferred from your PC onto your memory card using a card reader.

What are the advantages of using a Memory Card Reader:

- A Card Reader can read multiple types of memory cards such as Compact Flash (CF), Secure Digital (SD), Mini SD, etc. No need for any other devices.
- Simplicity
- It is not neccesary to attach your device (Digital Camera, Digital Video Recorder, etc) to the PC to transfer data, saving on battery life and simplifies the process.
- Faster Transfer rates
- The process of transferring files using a Memory Card Reader is significantly faster then using your Digital Camera, Digital Video Recorder, MP3 Player or Mobile Phone.
