What is a Memory Card Reader?

Definition:

A Memory Card Reader is a device that connects to your PC via a USB or Firewire cable and transfers data directly from your memory card to your PC. Data can also be transferred from your PC onto your memory card using a card reader.

There are many different types of cards readers but they can be basically broken down into three categories

  • Only accepts one format of memory card, ie. CF

  • Accepts different types of the memory cards in the one reader, such as 19 in 1
  
  
• Series Card Reader
  • Accepts multiple cards of the same type
